Common Hydroxyapatite Toothpaste Questions

Here are some of the most common questions we are asked about our Hydroxyapatite Toothpaste.

What is Hydroxyapatite?

The teeth are a complex structure made up of many parts. Your enamel, dentin, and cementum are made up of Hydroxyapatite (HA). It is this naturally occurring mineral that contributes to the hardness and strength of your teeth and bones which means it's both bioavailable (the body can absorb it) and non-toxic.

What % of Hydroxyapatite does your toothpaste contain?

We get this question asked ALOT and the answer is, it's not that simple.

Some functional dentists recommend looking for a toothpaste that contains at least X% Hydroxyapatite. Often these dentists have no experience in product development & are selling brands of toothpaste they are affiliated with and making money from those sales.

Truth be told, toothpaste containing 15% Hydroxyapatite (we do not use 15%) can be more effective than toothpaste containing 50%. Toothpaste efficacy depends on so much more than the percentage of the hero ingredient, such as the type and grade of material.

Our hydroxyapatite toothpaste has been reviewed & approved for sale by the EU Commission, Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 where we are required to supply all documentation on ingredients & claims. Our award-winning Hydroxyapatite toothpaste has a clinically proven concentration to remineralise enamel however we are unable to disclose the exact % due to IP protection.

Does your product contain nano Hydroxyapatite?

Our toothpaste does not contain a nano form of Hydroxyapatite. On February 11, 2022, the European Commission notified the World Trade Organisation (WTO) of the future ban of nano Hydroxyapatite due to concerns that it may be genotoxic (damage the DNA).

How does Hydroxyapatite compare to Fluoride?

In several scientific studies, Hydroxyapatite toothpaste has been shown to be an effective (and safer, natural) alternative to Fluoride toothpaste.

Unlike Fluoride, Hydroxyapatite naturally exists in your body and is non-toxic and biocompatible. Consequently, it is safe to swallow hydroxyapatite toothpaste (we don't recommend it), whereas certain doses of fluoride are dangerous, and fluoride toothpaste must include a warning.
